The Advantages and Disadvantages of Floating Bamboo Flooring

Compared to wood or hardwood, bamboo is not that solid because it has hole inside. However, bamboo flooring is said to be strong and durable. Even though bamboo is not solid due to the hole inside, it is sturdy and tough, even more than woods. Bamboo flooring does not easily scratched and ruined.  Another advantage is that bamboos resistant to damp as they can absorb moistures and cannot be ruined easily by spills. Other benefit you can get from bamboo flooring is that it is environmentally friendly. It takes only a maximum of 7 years to obtain mature bamboo. In addition, floating bamboo flooring can be cleaned easily. You just need to sweep everyday and mop once a week.

When it comes to disadvantages of bamboo flooring, some people said that it does not come with easy installation. It means that before installing, you must study all the restrictions related to the bamboo if you want to have a good result. It is also said that bamboo floors break down easily if compared to hardwood floors. Despite all the disadvantages, bamboo flooring is still considered as one of the most preferred among all types of flooring.

Installing Floating Bamboo Flooring

If you are interested in floating bamboo flooring, you should know all the tips on how to install it to any room of your home. At the very initial, you need to know the measurement of your room in order to decide the amount of material you need. It is better if you multiply the width times the length of the room, and do not forget to add 10 percent. After that, cover your floor with rolls of poly moisture barrier which can be fastened by using a floor stapler. Next, lay your bamboo planks. Make sure that the first row is placed 1/4 inch from from the wall.

Sections which are smaller than 2 feet must be discarded. After that, connect the second row of planks to your first row by using the groove connectors and tongue. Continue installing and use a rubber mallet for a firm placement. Install trim pieces to close expansion joints.
