Creative Ways in Designing Contemporary Entryway Lighting

September 12th, 2012 Filed under: Interior, Lighting

A guest or visitor may judge your home first by seeing your entryway. Your entryway may be seen beautiful during daytime but how does it look like at night? In this case, you need to give a good first impression to your guests by having contemporary entryway lighting.

Even if your entryway is small, you can make it stunning by using contemporary entryway lighting, namely ambient and decorative light. A soft lighting that glows in a warm tone can best describe the warmth of the homeowner. Your contemporary entryway lighting should not only calm and warm, but also focus on artwork and other focal points of interest.

It would be great if you use skylights or windows during daytime to provide ambient light in your entryway. As for the evening hours, contemporary entryway lighting can be in the form of  chandelier, in the middle of the entry. If this is your choice, be sure that it hangs more than 6’8″ from your floor. Another smart option is that you add additional light sources like faux alabaster wall sconces or opaque glasses on both of your entryway’s sides, accompanying the chandelier as a contemporary .

When it comes to adding ambient light as contemporary entryway lighting, a quick and simple way is by having formal torchiere. It serves as a high-end variety of up-light floor lamp. It is recommended that you get a torchiere that comes with a type shape which is solid reflector. You can put two torchiere as well as a large mirror to help your small entryway feel spacious. Put the contemporary entryway lighting directed upwards facing the ceiling to make the area feel larger.

Another creative way in implementing contemporary entryway lighting is by adding cove lighting near your ceiling. It can also be done by using linear fluorescent light sources which are put hidden behind the molding details. If it light up the ceiling, you entryway will look bigger than its actual size.

All in all, your entryway gives the first impression of your home to all the visitors, thus needs special attention. If you want your guests to be impressed with the entry, a contemporary entryway lighting is crucial.
